This significant story of belonging and identity, set in the Jungle of India, subtly raises themes of peace and respect for all life. Mowgli both Man Cub and Wolf Cub, must find where he belongs in the world. This story has undergone many reinterpretations over the decades. Many film versions exist. This Rainy Day version has been adapted for Primary School performance, but stays true to the writing of Kipling. It is somewhat darker than the cartoon version, but it is in line with the latest film adaptations which do not shy away from pressing themes and do not condescend to young audiences. The original text is long and layered and tells many stories within one binding. Here we have captured the main story and adapted it for performance by young actors, who will bring to life the familiar characters of Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera, Shere Khan, Hathi, Kaa, the Monkeys, the Wolf Pack and one or two of the lesser known characters. As always, you as the director are invited to bring your own style and ideas to the production. Musical items are suggested. Notes for choreography and set design are included. 40 page script. A stage production. Music suggestions with directions for sound effects. Cast size: 12 - 20+ Ages: suitable for ages 11 - 13 or tailored for Junior High School.
